UNCSA grad wins awards at Cannes
Jeff Nichols, a UNC School of the Arts School of Filmmaking alumnus, has won the Grand Prix for his film "TAKE SHELTER" at the 50th annual Critics' Week at the Cannes Film Festival. The Grand Prix is the second-most prestigious prize of the festival.
"TAKE SHELTER," written and directed by Nichols, is a psychological drama about a working-class husband and father who questions whether his terrifying dreams of an apocalyptic storm signal something real to come or the onset of an inherited mental illness he has feared all his life.
Nichols also won the Best Screenwriting Award from the Society of Dramatic Authors and Composers at Critics' Week.
Nichols received his undergraduate degree in directing from UNCSA in 2001.
