'Patchwork' benefit helps arts program
Arts for Life Winston-Salem will present a fundraiser called "Patchwork" at 8 p.m. Friday in the Back Door complex of First Presbyterian Church, 300 N. Cherry St.
"Patchwork" will feature an auction and local dancers performing works choreographed by Gina Ponzi Fornecker and others.
Proceeds will benefit Arts for Life programming at Brenner Children's Hospital. This makes art, writing and music programs available to patients and their families as a way of easing anxiety, stress and helping them cope with the realities of cancer and other serious illnesses.
Doors will open at 7 p.m., and a reception will follow the presentation.
Tickets at the door are $12, $10 for students. For information, see www.aflnc.org or call Elizabeth Messick at (336) 480-7906.
Daniels named interim dean
Brenda Daniels will serve as the interim dean of the School of Dance at UNC School of the Arts until a permanent dean is appointed, school officials said.
Daniels is an assistant dance dean and instructor at UNCSA.
A search is under way for a dean.
Ethan Stiefel, the dance dean since 2007, announced in September that he would step down at the end of the 2010-11 school year for professional and personal reasons.
He since has announced that he is joining the Royal New Zealand Ballet as artistic director. He also is engaged to Gillian Murphy, an UNCSA alumna. Both are principal dancers with American Ballet Theatre.
