Recipe Swap: Mac and cheese with a twist

Mary Wagoner of Lawsonville responded to a request from Betty Taylor with the following recipe for macaroni and cheese.

Taylor wanted a recipe that used cottage cheese in place of milk. Wagoner said she got this recipe years ago from an aunt. "It is still my favorite and a big hit when I serve it," Wagoner said.

Deluxe Macaroni and Cheese

7 ounces macaroni, cooked and drained
2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
2 cups small-curd cream-style cottage cheese
1 egg, beaten
Salt and pepper to taste

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Place macaroni in a large bowl. Add cheese, cottage cheese, egg, salt and pepper; mix well.

2. Pour into baking dish and bake 30 to 45 minutes, until brown and bubbly.
