Music Briefs: Chamber trio to perform today

The Piedmont Chamber Trio will present a concert at 4 p.m. today at First Christian Church, 23200 Country Club Road. The music group features Linda Brown, flute; Selina Carter, cello; and Helen Rifas on the harp. The concert is free to the public.

Enjoy Mardi Gras fundraiser for center

The Enrichment Center will present its annual signature fundraising event, Mardi Gras at Millennium, from 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. Friday at The Millennium Center, 101 W. Fifth St.

One of the evening's entertainers will be Tony Drake, a blind and autistic blues guitarist and vocalist who has recently moved to Winston-Salem. Drake has recorded a CD, "Touched by an Angel," and is working on his next recording.

Tickets are $60 per person or $400 for a table for eight. Proceeds benefit the Enrichment Center's programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Salem choirs to perform for free

The Salem College Chorale and Chamber Choir will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Salem Fine Arts Center, 601 S. Church St.

Sonja Sepulveda, assistant professor of music and choral director at Salem College, will lead the group along with the Palmetto Voices, a vocal ensemble composed of Sepulveda's former and current students. The concert is a preview of an invited performance for the Southern Division of the American Choral Directors Association Conference Feb. 29 to March 3 at the Winston-Salem Convention Center.

There will also be a PowerPoint presentation on performance practices, the history of the spiritual and comparisons to gospel. The concert is free to the public.

Cultural music planned at children's museum

The Children's Museum of Winston-Salem will present the "Healing Force Concert" from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at The Children's Museum of Winston-Salem, 390 S. Liberty St.

The performance is a celebration of culture with the sounds of drums and gourds. There will also be a story with a song that will feature talking drums and wasamba.

The concert is free to the public.

High Point concert includes Intersection

Intersection, a classical trio, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, 405 N. Main St., High Point.

The concert is part of the High Point Community Concert Association's concert program. It will feature musicians on piano, violin and cello, and will include music of Ravel, Dvorak, Brahms and avant garde compositions.

Symphony takes on classic Beatles tunes

The Winston-Salem Symphony will present "Classical Mystery Tour: A Tribute to the Beatles with the Winston-Salem Symphony," at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Reynolds Auditorium, 301 N. Hawthorne Road.

The performance is part of the Symphony's Plugged-in Pops Series, and will feature guest artists performing some of the Beatles biggest hits, including "A Hard Day's Night," "All You Need Is Love," "Eleanor Rigby" and more.

Wake Forest musicians to compete for cash

The 35th annual Giles-Harris Competitions in Musical Performance will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wake Forest University's Brendle Recital Hall.

Twenty-eight Wake Forest students will perform memorized pieces to compete for cash prizes. The competitions are free to the public.

Bluegrass music on tap in Mount Airy

Travis Frye & Blue Mountain band will host "Voice of the Blue Ridge" beginning at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Old-Time Music Heritage Hall at the Earle Theatre, 142 N. Main St., Mount Airy.

The evening of bluegrass music will also feature Hubert Lawson and the Bluegrass Country Boys.

Tickets are $7 or free for ages 12 and younger and those with a 2012 Surry Arts Council season pass.

Shallowford Series features flute, piano works

The Shallowford Series will continue its 25th season with "Paris et la Flûte Française," a concert featuring music for flute and piano, at 3 p.m. Feb. 19 at Shallowford Presbyterian Church, 1200 Lewisville-Clemmons Road, Lewisville.

Performing will be flutists Julian Rose, Mary Rose Neiman and Milan Jeremic, and pianist Matthew Stephens, students at UNC School of the Arts. The program will include works by Pierre Sancan, Georges Adolphe Hüe, Henri Dutilleux, Andre Jolivet and Jules Demersseman/Félix Berthélemy. A reception will follow the recital.

The concert is free to the public.
