DOUGHNUT DAY: In observance of National Doughnut Day, participating Krispy Kreme shops will give one free doughnut to anyone who visits. The five Triad-area Krispy Kreme shops will have red kettles by the register to accept donations to support The Salvation Army. The Salvation Army in Chicago established National Doughnut Day in 1938 to raise money to help the poor during the Great Depression and to honor Salvation Army volunteers who prepared doughnuts and other food for thousands of soldiers during World War I.
FIRST FRIDAY GALLERY HOP: Shops will be open late, and several galleries will have receptions for new exhibitions from 7 to 10 p.m. today in the Downtown Arts District along Sixth and Trade streets. PLAN AHEAD: Tonight's ghost hunt is sold out, but tickets are still available to Korner's Folly's conference on paranormal investigations, from 2:30 to 11 p.m. Saturday at Korner's Folly in Kernersville. The cost is $40, and all proceeds go to the Korner's Folly Operation Restoration Campaign. Reservations are required; go to www.kornersfolly.org.
The second annual Marla K. Bennett Memorial Ride & Bike Show will be held Saturday. Registration for motorcyclists will begin at 9:30 a.m. at The American Children's Home at 3844 Highway 8 S. in Lexington, and the ride will leave at 11 a.m. with a police escort. Registration is $15 for riders, $5 for co-riders. Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.
