MEET THE MASTER: If you think Bruce Lee was tough, wait till you meet the guy who trained him. Ip Man, out this week on DVD and Blu-ray, is a Hong Kong action movie about Lee's mentor, the first man to openly teach the martial art discipline known as Wing Chun. Donnie Yen plays the title role in the film, which is largely set during the 1930s. The movie has already garnered international acclaim for its martial arts choreography, which was overseen by legendary Chinese action star Sammo Hung.
Tuesday, August 3
FIT FOR A KING: Sure, you can't see Elvis Presley live in concert without a time machine, but Elvis On Tour is the next best thing. A combination concert film and documentary, the movie -- out Tuesday on DVD or Blu-ray -- follows the King of Rock ‘N' Roll on a 15-city tour from 1972, performing his greatest hits. The Blu-ray version comes with a 40-page companion booklet filled with photos and tour information. Hardcore Elvis fans may also want to pick up The Elvis 75th Anniversary DVD Collection, a 17-film set that includes Elvis On Tour, two other documentaries and 14 feature films. Suggested retail for the megaset is $74.95, which is a whole lotta shakin' going on for the money.
