Winston-Salem Writers will present a reading session and a writing workshop this week:
□ "Open-Mike Night" will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Billy Bob's Silver Diner, 1650 Hanes Mall Blvd. Writers may read aloud their prose and poetry.
Admission is free.
□ "Description and Dialogue: A Workshop" will meet from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday at Gardner-Webb University's Winston-Salem campus at the Historic Wachovia Bank Building, 8 Third St. Winston-Salem Writers president Al Perry will lead the session on these vital elements of fiction and nonfiction writing.
Preregistration is required. Admission is $25, free for members.

A Vengeful Spirit author to discuss her book
Lizzy Armentrout, the author of A Vengeful Spirit, will discuss her book at a luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Twenty One & Main Restaurant in Elkin.
Set in fictional Pilotview, North Carolina, A Vengeful Spirit is a Christian-oriented mystery. It follows the efforts of teacher Shelly Gale to protect her students and help catch a killer.
Tickets for the luncheon are $30, and include the meal, discussion, and a copy of Armentrout's novel.
