GATE CITY BLUES: Greensboro gets the blues this weekend when the Greensboro Blues Festival hits the Coliseum at 8 p.m. Performers include J. Blackfoot (so named because of his habit of walking barefoot on tarred summer sidewalks in his hometown of Memphis), Mel Waiters, soul singer Roy-C, Sir Charles Jones and Shirley Brown. Tickets are $39.50-$49.50 and are available through www.tickermaster.com or by calling 800-745-3000, or at the Coliseum box office.

Friday & Saturday, February 5-6

OUCH! Bull-riding pros will battle beasts at Joel Coliseum Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 7:50 p.m. The rest of us will watch from the sidelines, thank you very much. Hold your horses and let the dirt fly! Tickets are from $11.50 to $103.50. Call 800-745-3000 or go to www.ticketmaster.com.

Tuesday February 9

IT'S GETTING HOT IN HERE: Piedmont Environmental Alliance will hold a special screening of The Age of Stupid Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Aperture Cinema. The 2008 film stars a man living alone in the apocalyptic world of 2055, looking back on footage from 2008 and wondering why the world didn't do something about climate change. Tickets are $10. Go to www.aperturecinema.com for more information or call 722-8148.

FUNNY TIMES: Today is a promising day for comedy fans. At 10 and 10:30 p.m. respectively, Comedy Central will start new seasons of Demetri Martin's sketch-comedy series Important Things With Demetri Martin and Sarah Silverman's raunchy sitcom The Sarah Silverman Program (look for Winston-Salem native Randy Gambill in an episode with Silverman later this season). Then at 11 p.m., turn to Showtime for Paul Mooney: It's The End of The World!, an hourlong stand-up special with the acerbic comedian (pictured) known for such cutting-edge comedy as his "Negrodamus" segments on Chappelle's Show.

Out NOW

THE DEVIL YOU SAY: Writer/director Ti West's smart, effective homage to early-1980s horror films, The House of the Devil, earned critical acclaim and ended up on some reviewers' Top-10 lists last year. The movie, done in a style more akin to Rosemary's Baby and the original Halloween than Scream or Saw, follows a pretty college student (Jocelin Donahue) who takes a job in a spooky mansion. Bad things happen. It is now available on DVD, Blu-ray and, exclusively on Amazon.com, VHS tape (how's that for old-school?).
