FUNNY TIMES: Today is a promising day for comedy fans. At 10 and 10:30 p.m. respectively, Comedy Central will start new seasons of Demetri Martin's sketch-comedy series Important Things With Demetri Martin and Sarah Silverman's raunchy sitcom The Sarah Silverman Program (look for Winston-Salem native Randy Gambill in an episode with Silverman later this season). Then at 11 p.m., turn to Showtime for Paul Mooney: It's The End of The World!, an hourlong stand-up special with the acerbic comedian (pictured) known for such cutting-edge comedy as his "Negrodamus" segments on Chappelle's Show.

THE DEVIL YOU SAY: Writer/director Ti West's smart, effective homage to early-1980s horror films, The House of the Devil, earned critical acclaim and ended up on some reviewers' Top-10 lists last year. The movie, done in a style more akin to Rosemary's Baby and the original Halloween than Scream or Saw, follows a pretty college student (Jocelin Donahue) who takes a job in a spooky mansion. Bad things happen. It is now available on DVD, Blu-ray and, exclusively on Amazon.com, VHS tape (how's that for old-school?).
