The Piedmont Chamber Singers will present “A Ceremony of Carols” at 7:30 pm. Friday in Ardmore Baptist Church, 501 Miller St.
Wendy Looker will lead a program that opens with John Rutter’s “Three Old English Carols” and moves into Benjamin Britten’s “A Ceremony of Carols,” which was composed on a cargo vessel traveling with the United States and England during World War II.
“Ceremony” is based on medieval and renaissance poems about the nativity. The harp accompaniment in “Ceremony” evokes images of falling dews, a chilly manger that gradually warms as well as birds singing in the rain.
The program will also include such works as “O Magnum Mysterium,” music with Canadian and Native American roots and such familiar songs as “We Three Kings of Orient Are” and “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.”
Tickets are $15-$18 for adults, $13-$16 for seniors and $7-$10 for students. Students in grades K-12 will be admitted free when accompanied by one adult, who will be charged half the regular admission price.
