The "Fall Faculty/Guest Artist Dance Concert" at Wake Forest University will be presented beginning Thursday in the Mainstage Theatre on the Scales Fine Arts Center on campus.
The concert will feature work by guest artists Juel Lane, Larry Lavender, Sean Sullivan and Gyula Pandi. It will also include pieces by WFU instructors Brantly Bright Shapiro, Tina Yarborough Liggins, Christina Tsoules Soriano and Nina Lucas.
Lane's piece, titled What He Left Us, will celebrate the creativity of Michael Jackson. Lucas' Ghosts explores the anxiety of breaking up and the quest to find comfort and move on. Liggins' Get Up is an upbeat number exhibiting the technical and physical traits of a dancer.
Shapiro will stage three movements from the ballet A Midsummer Night's Dream, all featuring fairies dancing in the woods on a moonlit night. In Soriano's new quartet, dancers investigate the different movement qualities that emerge when dancing through the negative space that is created around their bodies versus what happens when they dance on each other's body surfaces.
Other works will include Sullivan's Without, Lavender's Give/Take and Pandi's Gossip.
Shows will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and at 2 p.m. next Sunday. Admission is $10, $5 for seniors and students. For information; call 758-5295. Tickets will also be available at the door.
