Music Briefs: Arts School symphony to perform two shows

The UNC School of the Arts Symphony Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and at 2 p.m. next Sunday in Crawford Hall on campus.

The program will feature Saint-Saens' Symphony No. 3 with Timothy Olsen on organ, and Andre Jolivet's Concerto for Flute for String Orchestra. The soloist in the Jolivet concerto, Megan Szymanski, won UNCSA's concerto competition.

Ransom Wilson will conduct both the Saint-Saens symphony and the Jolivet concerto.

The rest of the concert will be conducted by students Konstantin Dobroykov (Claude Debussy's Afternoon of a Faun) and Joseph Edwards (Samuel Barber's Essay No. 2).
