»  Comments | Post a Comment

Wake Forest University faculty and graduates who have participated in art-buying trips for the WFU Student Union Collection of Contemporary Art will share their experiences during lectures at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17 and Dec. 1 at Reynolda House Museum of American Art. The series is in conjunction with the current exhibition "Now/Then: A Journey in Collecting Contemporary Art at Wake Forest University."

The speakers will discuss the goals of each buying group, which studios and galleries they visited, and their preparation for the trip. Works from each buying year can be seen in the exhibition.

Tuesday's lecture will focus on the first buying trip, that of the class of 1963. Provost Emeritus Edwin G. Wilson and alumnus Ted Meredith will be the speakers. The inaugural group bought works by Pablo Picasso, Elaine de Kooning, Richard Anuszkiewicz and Anne Kesler Shields.

The Nov. 17 lecture will look at the class of '89 trip. WFU professor of art David Faber and alumnus H.D. "Giz" Womack will discuss their selection of works by Richard Diebenkorn, Odd Nerdrum, and Robert Colescott.

The Dec. 1 lecture will look at the class of '77 trip. Retired WFU professor of art Robert Knott and alumnus Matt Bullard will discuss their selection of works by Jim Dine, Robert Rauschenberg, and Red Grooms.

Admission is $5.
