Art Brief: Release party, exhibit opening and dogs at the Hop

The Downtown Arts District Association will hold the First Friday Gallery Hop from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday in the arts district around Sixth and Trade streets. For more information, call 734-1864 or visit www.dadaws.org. Special events during the hop will include:

□ AARF will bring adoptable dogs to Patina/Verdigris, at 217 W. Sixth St. The shop will also feature new works by painter Allison Lindborg and photographer Joshua Moe. Leigh Somerville McMillan will be at the shop to sign copies of her book It Started With a Dog. She will donate $1 to AARF for each book sold. For more information, call 725-6395.

□ Artworks Gallery, at 564 N. Trade St., will have an opening reception for a two-person show, "Medium and Message," which focuses on how the medium used becomes part of the meaning of each work. It features works by Mitzi Shewmake, who uses clay and cement to make sculpture; and Mona Wu, who uses several different media to create prints and multimedia works. Call 723-5890.

□ Mary Ingram will release her first solo album, Moth to the Flame, at Atelier Studio, 619 N. Trade St. The 11-song album will primarily be available as a digital download, and CDs will be available only during the release event at Atelier. The CDs include a bonus track. Ingram will perform at Atelier at 7:30 and 9 p.m. Call 768-2691.
