Serenity on Blu-ray (PG-13): In 2006, director Joss Whedon's film Serenity was one of the first titles to be released in high definition -- in the fledgling HD-DVD format. Oops. Now that HD has lost the format war, Serenity finally comes to Blu-ray. The film follows Mal Reynolds, a ne'er-do-well spaceship captain leading a band of outlaws in the distant future. It has smart dialogue, an intriguing story and interesting characters -- plus a stunning vision of the future that is all the more eye-catching in high def. It also includes extras not found on the DVD, such as a virtual tour of the ship.

An American Carol (PG-13): Director David Zucker (Airplane!, The Naked Gun films) takes on Michael Moore in this right-wing political parody. It's a parody of A Christmas Carol, with a blustery liberal filmmaker getting his comeuppance from three spirits.

Towelhead (R): Alan Ball (Six Feet Under) directed this controversial coming-of-age drama about a pretty Lebanese girl dealing with a new home, racism at school and her own sexual awakening. In particular, the 13-year-old is fascinated with a handsome but creepy adult neighbor (Aaron Eckhart).

Toots (Unrated): This documentary looks at the larger-than-life story of Toots Shor, a famous Manhattan saloon owner whose clientele included such famous faces as Frank Sinatra, Jackie Gleason and Joe DiMaggio.

The Atomic Cafe Collector's Edition (Unrated): This 1982 documentary examines the Cold War panic surrounding the atomic bomb. The filmmakers use footage from Civil Defense films to show how people in the 1950s braced themselves for a possible war. This special edition also includes some of the short propaganda films featured in the film, such as the famous Duck and Cover.

Hellbound: Hellraiser II (Unrated): This 20th-anniversary edition of the cult film has an hour of new featurettes, including interviews with the cast and crew.
