□ Blake Carter of Winston-Salem has completed Campbell University's Lundy-Fetterman School of Business' Summer Program in Entrepreneurship and Free Enterprise. The program introduces high school students to the fundamentals of market-based economics, free enterprise and entrepreneurial skills.
□ Christopher Eugene Lutz has received his M.B.A. degree from Pfeiffer University. He is a 1997 graduate of Forbush High School, and received a B.S.B.A in finance from UNC Charlotte in 2004. He is currently a financial analyst with Maersk Line in Charlotte.
Lutz is the husband of Stephanie Tant Lutz of Huntersville, and the son of the Rev. Jack and Jane Lutz of King.

□ Carolyn Couch, associate director of Career Services at Wake Forest University, will spend two weeks in Germany this fall as a Fulbright Scholar. She is one of 25 scholarship recipients nationwide selected to participate in a group seminar on German higher education and society through the U.S. State Department's FULBRIGHT INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION ADMINISTRATORS PROGRAM. THE GROUP WILL VISIT UNIVERSITIES IN BERLIN AND OTHER CITIES.
Couch joined Wake Forest as assistant director of Career Services in 1997 and became associate director of career services in 2000. She received a B.S. degree from Meredith College in 1984, and an M.A. degree in student development counseling from Appalachian State University in 1991.

□ Terri Kirby Erickson, a Lewisville poet, won two awards in the 2009 Adult and Student Contest of the N.C. Poetry Society. The winners were announced during a celebration held at the Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities in Southern Pines. Erickson won two honorable mention awards in the adult category. One was for the Caldwell Nixon Jr. Award and the other was for the Lyman Haiku Award.
The annual NCPS Poetry Contests consist of nine categories for adults and five categories for students from third grade through undergraduate, with all categories being judged by acclaimed, out-of-state poets.
□ Army Pvt. Aaron C. Emerson has graduated from the Infantryman One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. The training consists of basic infantry training and advanced individual training.
Emerson is the son of Shain Johnson of Davidson and Tracy Johnson of Winston-Salem, and a 2007 graduate of North Davidson High School.
□ Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Jason N. DeHart, along with other sailors and Marines from the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group, Norfolk, Va., and 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, Camp Lejeune, has been deployed to support Maritime Security Operations, provide crisis response capability, and increase theater security cooperation and forward Naval presence in the Fifth and Sixth Fleet areas of operation.
DeHart is a 2001 graduate of North Surry High School, and joined the Navy in February 2005. He is the son of Jeanette E. McIntyre of Mount Airy and Keith N. DeHart of Stuart, Va.
□ Air Force Airman 1st Class Tiffany J. Gray has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, and has earned credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. She is the daughter of Tamara Gray of Winston Salem, the niece of Karyn Gray of Kannapolis, and a 2008 graduate of Ronald Reagan High School.
□ A project proposed by Sara Allen Harper of Winston-Salem has been chosen for the inaugural round of funding from the Jefferson Public Citizens program at the University of Virginia. Inspired by student design efforts in response to Hurricane Katrina, Harper and four other students will create a ready-made prototype shelter to tackle the immediate needs of victims, like water and energy. The group hopes to partner with the Building Goodness Foundation to produce a shelter design in time to aid future disaster situations.
Harper's team is one of the 16 student group projects U.Va. is funding as part of its newly launched Jefferson Public Citizens program, which grew out of Commission for the Future of the University.The program is an effort to connect public service to academics and to prepare students for life after college.
Harper is the daughter of Lars and Mary Harper, and a graduate of Reynolds High School. She is a third-year student at U.Va., majoring in architecture.
