Paul Schneider graduated from UNC School of the Arts in 1998 in the School of Filmmaking, but most of his work since then has been in front of the camera, as an actor.
His latest role is in Bright Star, a drama from director Jane Campion. It tells the story of 19th-century English poet John Keats and his doomed romance with Fanny Brawne. Schneider plays Keats' confidante, the bombastic Scottish poet Charles Armitage Brown.
The film will open Friday in Charlotte and Raleigh. Schneider will appear at a special screening at the Colony Theater, 5438 Six Forks Road in Raleigh, at 7 p.m. Friday, and will conduct a question-and-answer session afterward.

His previous film, the quirky comedy Away We Go starring John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph, comes to DVD and Blu-ray on Tuesday. And he is a regular on the NBC show Parks and Recreation, which airs Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. In it, he plays a handsome co-worker with whom Leslie Knope (series star Amy Poehler) is smitten.
His previous roles have included appearances in two films by fellow UNCSA alumnus David Gordon Green, 2000's George Washington and 2003's All the Real Girls; and supporting roles in such films as Cameron Crowe's Elizabethtown; The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford; and Lars and the Real Girl.
Schneider made is directorial debut with Pretty Bird, which played at the Sundance Film Festival last year.
