■ Runners and walkers looking for a different kind of race might consider the Climb MS: Power up the Tower.

The event, a fundraiser for Multiple Sclerosis, will be at 7 a.m. on Oct. 31 on the staircases of Winston Tower. Participants will climb 30 flights (618 stairs) to the top of one of Winston-Salem's tallest building, and prizes will be awarded.

Those interested can compete as individuals or in teams of four. The entry fee is $25, and each participant must raise at least $100. Contacts: Derek Hill 266-4136 (ext. 215) or www.climbMStriad.org.

■ The Tri-4-Fun Triathlon, an untimed, noncompetitive sprint triathlon, is scheduled Oct. 4 at the White Family YMCA (formerly the Central YMCA in Winston-Salem). It has a 200-yard swim, 10-mile bike and 5-K run, but timing chips will not be used, making it ideal for first-timers.

The event will be set up like any triathlon. More information is available at www.fleetfeetwinston-salem.com.

■ There's still time to sign up for Saturday's Salem Lake Trial Runs -- a 30-K race at 8 a.m. and a 10-K at 8:30.

Packets for runners already registered, and registration for those who are not, will be at available at 4 Runners Only from 5:30 to 7:30 Friday night. For more information, call Steve Bennett at 722-2489.

■ The first CrimeStoppers 5-K earlier this month had a little celebrity flair, with Cameron Kent and Lanie Pope of WXII among the more than 70 runners. Sarah Clawson, 28, of Winston-Salem, won the women's division in 20:43, and Craig Longhurst, 36, of Clemmons, won the men's division in 17:18. Kent, 52, finished fifth overall in 20:26, and Pope, 39, won her age group in 24:42.
