□ Angela Vogler, a student at Mount Tabor High School, recently served as a page for the N.C. House of Representatives.

□ Thomas Edward Cartee III of Oak Ridge graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and Spanish and a minor in Chinese.
He has been inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society and is one of 48 Trinity students elected to the Epsilon of Texas chapter of Phi Beta Kappa as juniors or seniors.
His parents are Tom and Kathy Cartee.
□ Sarah Tesh of Clemmons has been named to the Spring 2009 Dean's List at Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tenn.
She is a senior majoring in communication, and she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Tesh.

□ A project proposed by Sara Allen Harper of Winston-Salem has been chosen for the first round of funding from the Jefferson Public Citizens program at the University of Virginia.
Harper is the daughter of Lars and Mary Harper and a graduate of Reynolds High School. She is a third-year student at UVa. majoring in architecture.
Inspired by student design efforts in response to Hurricane Katrina, Harper and four other students will create a ready-made prototype shelter to take care of such needs of victims as water and power. The group hopes to work with the Building Goodness Foundation to produce a shelter design in time to aid future disaster situations.
Harper's team is one of the 16 student-group projects the university is funding as part of its newly launched Jefferson Public Citizens program, which grew out of Commission for the Future of the University.

□ Summer Bost has been awarded a two-year scholarship for assistance in a Master of School Administration from the N.C. Principal's Fellows Program.
Bost has a Bachelor of Social Work from Appalachian State University and an M.A. in Elementary Education from Salem College. She teaches first grade at Latham Elementary School.
She is the daughter of Mayor John Bost and LaDonna Bost of Clemmons.
□ Reserve Pfc. Zachary J. Agee has been mobilized and deployed overseas to a forward operating base in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, the military operations involving members of the U.S. armed forces and coalition forces participating in efforts to free and secure Iraq.
He is a civil-affairs specialist with two years of military service, and is regularly assigned to the 422nd Civil Affairs Battalion based in Greensboro.
Agee is the son of Michael C. Agee of Germanton, and a 2007 graduate of South Stokes High School.
□ Army Reserve Pvt. Brian Galloway has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
He is the son of Anthony Galloway of Walnut Cove and Marguerite Hales of Madison, and a 2008 graduate of McMichael High School in Madison.
□ Army Pfc. George K. Gordon, Jr. has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla., as an Honor Graduate and he received a Letter of Commendation.
Gordon, a motor transport operator, is the son of George K. Gordon Sr. of Elizabeth City, and Patsy L. Beasley of Winston-Salem. He is a 2003 graduate of Pasquotank County High School in Elizabeth City.
□ Army Pfc. Khowry M. Thorpe has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.
He is the son of Gwendolyn D. Davis of Winston-Salem and a 2004 graduate of Parkland High School.
□ Terry Kirby Erickson, a Winston-Salem poet, won two awards in the 2009 Adult and Student Contest of the N.C. Poetry Society. The winners were announced during a celebration held at the Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities in Southern Pines.
Erickson won two honorable mention awards in the adult category. One was for the Caldwell Nixon Jr. Award and the other was for the Lyman Haiku Award.
□ The Winston-Salem Symphony Association held its annual meeting and elected officers and board members:

Lis Marcotullio received the 2008-09 Virginia Dossinger Volunteer of the Year Award the Winston-Salem Symphony Association at its annual meeting.
Marcotullio is a member of the symphony's board of directors and is the immediate past president of the symphony's Encore Society volunteer group. She is an active volunteer for the Symphony.
