Buses spread word of free prescription program

The Community Care Center of Winston-Salem has hitched a ride on Winston-Salem Transit Authority buses to get the word out about a program that provides free prescription drugs for low-income or underinsured residents.
The Med-Aid ads, which read, "Struggling to pay for medicine? Maybe we can help," are running in English and Spanish on buses that cover several high-traffic areas.
Those include Eastway Shopping Center, Joel Coliseum and University Parkway, Marketplace Mall and Parkway Plaza, Hanes Mall, Forsyth and Wake Forest University Baptist medical centers, and Sprague and Waughtown streets. The ads also are featured on four Trans-Aid buses, which have routes all over Winston-Salem.
The program, run by the N.C. Association of Free Clinics, has a mail-order central pharmacy to provide medications donated by pharmaceutical companies to clinics, county health departments, rural health centers and other providers.
The program also covers Davie and Stokes counties.
