A Wilkes County woman was killed when she lost control of her car and was hit by an oncoming vehicle on N.C. 268 this morning, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Kasi Sale Harless, 38, of Wilkesboro, died in the accident, which happened at 7:55 a.m. about 1.6 miles west of Ronda, said Trooper Brandon Stokes.

Harless was traveling east on N.C. 268 when she ran off the road to the right, came back on the road, crossed the centerline, went off the road to the left, then came back on the road and slid into the path of an oncoming SUV driven by Glenn Ricky Simpson, 55, of Mt. Airy, Stokes said.

Both vehicles were traveling slower than the posted speed limit of 55 mph. The road was wet from rain.

Simpson was taken to Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital, with injuries that did not appear life-threatening, Stokes said.

No charges will be filed, he said.
