Crank 2: High Voltage (Unrated): This gleefully mindless action movie picks up where the first Crank left off. Never mind that the first movie left off with the death of hard-charging hero Chev Chelios (Jason Statham). To paraphrase Monty Python, he got better, and now he's in a race to find the bad guys who … get ready for it… stole his heart for an illegal transplant and left him with a battery-powered backup. The supporting cast includes Amy Smart, Dwight Yoakam, and, in one of his last roles, David Carradine.
Bedknobs and Broomsticks (G): Angela Lansbury and Roddy McDowall star in this lively 1971 Disney film, which blends live action and animation. It's available in a new "Enchanted Musical Special Edition."
Important Things with Demetri Martin: Season One (Unrated): Martin, a comedian known for his youthful looks and deadpan, absurdist humor stars in this Comedy Central series. Each episode takes on a different "important" topic such as power or games, with a mix of standup and sketch comedy.
Valentino: The Last Emperor (PG): This documentary looks at the career of fashion icon Valentino Garavani.
Goosebumps (Unrated): The spooky-but-kid-friendly series returns to whet viewers' appetites for trick-or-treat candy with the new DVD releases The Headless Ghost and Attack of the Jack-o-Lanterns.
Parks and Recreation: Season One (Unrated): Amy Poehler and Rashida Jones star in this mockumentary series from the producers of The Office, which has a similar approach to its subject matter, blending first-person interviews and footage of workplace antics. The focus this time is on small town politics, which doesn't prove as fertile a subject as office politics in the original series. The fifth season of The Office also came to DVD (and Blu-ray) this week.
Martini Movies Collection Wave 3 (Various Ratings): Five new movies are available in this line of films from the late 1960s and early '70s: Model Shop from French New Wave director Jacques Demy; The Buttercup Chain; The Pursuit of Happiness; Summertree, a drama about a young man (Michael Douglas) who gets his draft notice for the Vietnam War; and Love and Pain and the Whole Damn Thing. Each film is available separately and includes a customized martini recipe.
Harper's Island: The DVD Edition (Unrated): The addictive mystery series, which was designed to run only one season, comes to DVD in a new special edition. It follows a wedding party on an island in the Pacific Northwest where a series of shocking murders take place, with the cast gradually whittled down one by one.
Silverado on Blu-ray (PG-13): Kevin Kline, Kevin Costner and Danny Glover head the cast of this much-loved 1985 Western from director Lawrence Kasdan (The Big Chill). The new Blu-ray edition is loaded with extras and includes a companion booklet filled with photographs and notes about the making the making of the movie.
Also new on Blu-ray: The Quick and the Dead, Sam Raimi's Western about a dueling contest, with a cast including Russell Crowe, Sharon Stone, Leonardo DiCaprio and Gene Hackman; Creepshow, an homage to classic horror comics from director George A. Romero and writer Stephen King; and Friday, with Chris Tucker and Ice Cube.
