■ Capitals: Washington said that forward Quintin Laing has the swine flu, making him at least the third NHL player this week found to have the disease. A team spokesman told The Associated Press that Laing was being treated for H1N1 and being kept away from the rest of the team. The spokesman said that no other team members have shown symptoms.
■ Islanders: Captain Doug Weight is back in the New York lineup after a bout with swine flu.
Weight, 38, confirmed yesterday, hours before he made his return to the ice after a three-game absence, that he was bedridden with the virus after being diagnosed eight days earlier. Weight is at least the fourth NHL player to be diagnosed with the H1N1 virus in the past week.
Weight was deemed to be no longer contagious after five days.
"I wasn't scared at all. It was the flu as far as I'm concerned," Weight said before the Islanders played the New York Rangers.
