Easley is likely witness today before N.C. board

RALEIGH - Former North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley could soon respond personally to allegations presented to the State Board of Elections on his campaign finances.
Board Chairman Larry Leake said he anticipated Easley would be called Wednesday to testify before the board investigating his finances and those of the state Democratic Party.
So far, Easley's attorney has challenged testimony by McQueen Campbell, a political ally and former chairman of the board of trustees at North Carolina State University.
Campbell testified that Easley suggested Campbell get reimbursed for $11,000 in home repairs he paid on Easley's home in 2004 by filing aircraft invoices with Easley's campaign. Campbell also testified he flew Easley around on scores of campaign flights that weren't reported.
Easley left the Executive Mansion in January after eight years.
