House fire injures North Wilkesboro couple

NORTH WILKESBORO – A North Wilkesboro couple were injured yesterday in a fire at their home at 605 Peden St.
Linda Call, 61, was listed in critical condition last night at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. William Call, 54, was listed in fair condition.
An unidentified neighbor had helped the Calls out of the house when firefighters arrived shortly before 7 a.m., said North Wilkesboro Fire Chief Niki Hamby. He said the Calls both suffered smoke inhalation from superheated air.
Flames were coming out of the rear of the wood frame house and shooting over the roof, he said. The house was gutted.
The fire appeared to have started in a clothes dryer at the rear of the home, he said.
