HIGH POINT -- A paint plant on English Road will soon be added to the long list of manufacturers who have shut down operations in High Point.

Valspar will close its paint-manufacturing plant at 1647 W. English Road, where about 30 employees will lose their jobs.

Production will shut down by the end of November, according to Mike Dougherty, a spokesman at the company's corporate office in Minneapolis. A small staff will remain until the end of the year to assist in the closing process.

Employees were notified of the closure in June, Dougherty said.

He said that separation benefits were available to salaried employees, and severance for the hourly workers had been negotiated with union leaders at the plant.

Two other Valspar locations in High Point, at 2137 Brevard Road and 1717 W. English Road, will remain open.

Valspar has operated the plant since the mid-1980s.
