A woman out for a morning walk near her home was struck by a car and killed on Turner Road in Davidson County Wednesday, the N.C. Highway Patrol said.
Alice Hopkins, 58, of Lexington, was walking along the road facing traffic near the intersection of Holly Grove Road when she stumbled into the path of an oncoming car after 5 a.m., the highway patrol said.
Hopkins died at the scene.
No charges are expected to be filed against the driver. Hopkins was carrying a flashlight, but the batteries were apparently low and the bulb was dim, the highway patrol said.
