North Carolina's Highway Patrol commander has dealt with sexual misconduct by troopers and has now revealed he was transferred in 1987 because of an extramarital affair.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported that Commander Randy Glover acknowledged the affair Monday. Last month Glover and other officials wrote an e-mail to troopers urging them to be "morally and ethically beyond reproach" after a string of sex scandals and criminal charges among patrol members.
Glover told the News & Observer that his ex-wife caught him in an off-duty relationship with a Harnett County sheriff's dispatcher in 1987. The patrol transferred Glover, who is now remarried. Gov. Beverly Perdue appointed Glover commander after his predecessor retired in June. Glover says Perdue knew about the affair.
