Rams: Cullen Bryant, who spent 11 seasons with the Rams, was a running back on their 1980 Super Bowl team and fought the NFL's trading rules to stay in town, has died. He was 58.

Unknown to his family, Bryant had been under a doctor's care when he died on Tuesday at his home in Colorado Springs, Colo., said his sister-in-law, Wanda E. Bryant. She did not supply other details.

Bryant, the Rams' second-round draft pick in 1973, played with the team until 1982, was with the Seattle Seahawks in 1983 and '84 and returned to the Rams for his last season in 1987.

In 13 NFL seasons, Bryant scored 23 rushing and receiving touchdowns and ran back kickoffs for three others. He ran for 3,264 yards in 849 carries, and caught 148 passes for 1,176 yards. He ran for a 1-yard touchdown in the 1980 Super Bowl, which the Rams lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 31-19. Bryant, at 6-1 and 234 pounds, was then the biggest player to regularly return kickoffs.

Bears-Buccaneers trade: Winless Tampa Bay traded defensive end Gaines Adams to Chicago for a second-round pick in the 2010 Draft. The deal came Friday night, four days before the NFL trade deadline. Adams was the fourth pick in the 2007 Draft out of Clemson and had 13½ sacks in two-plus seasons with the Bucs, failing to meet expectations that he'd help revive the pass rush.

In five games this season, Adams had 14 tackles and one sack. Stylez G. White likely will fill the opening in the lineup when the Bucs face Carolina today.

Saints: New Orleans has placed first-year receiver Rod Harper on injured reserve with a stress fracture in his left foot. The Saints brought back rookie quarterback Chase Daniel, a former Missouri standout who New Orleans waived on Monday.

Harper was stuck behind a deep group of receivers and has not been active for a regular-season game. The Saints (4-0) play the visiting New York Giants (5-0) today.

Steelers: Running back Rashard Mendenhall practiced Friday and is expected to start against the Browns after returning to practice after a day off with flu-like symptoms. Safety Troy Polamalu also will start today. He practiced all week after missing four games with a torn medial-collateral ligament in his left knee.

Vikings: Percy Harvin, a rookie receiver and return man, is listed as questionable for today's game against Baltimore with an injured left shoulder. He says it will be a game-time decision. Right tackle Phil Loadholt (sprained ankle) also is listed as questionable, and punt returner Darius Reynaud (strained left hamstring) is doubtful.

Titans: Tennessee will be without both starting cornerbacks against the Patriots. Cortland Finnegan is outafter missing three straight days of practice. Nick Harper already was out after breaking his right arm last week in a 31-9 loss to Indianapolis. Defensive back Vincent Fuller, who broke his right arm, practiced and is questionable. He has not been cleared yet for contact.
