Sisters Cara and Mackenzie Hagan of 87 Dance Productions will perform Cara Hagan's duet Words Apart at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Annual Event Showcase of the N.C. Dance Alliance at the NW School of the Arts, 1415 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte.
Words Apart was made in collaboration with the Storyline Project of Winston-Salem. The piece will be danced to a recording of several project stories, with the storytellers being Dorothy Johnson, Cynthia Jaramillo, Jan and Zoe Detter, and Dudley Shearburn and Emily Wilson. The stories explore such subjects as racism, love, loss and friendship.
Words Apart was made possible, in part, by a $1,000 fellowship grant that Cara Hagan received from the N.C. Dance Alliance to create a new work and premiere it at the alliance's annual showcase. The grant is given to one person a year.
Tickets are $8 at the door. Email ncdancealliance@yahoo.com for more information or see www.ncdancealliance.org.
The showcase will be Saturday and next Sunday. It will include master classes, panel discussions, showings and formal performances.
Words Apart will premiere in Winston Salem and Fayetteville in the spring of 2010.
