A Thomasville man was in jail Wednesday after police said a man struck a bicyclist with his truck and then beat him.
Patrick Rashard Byrd, 30, of Thomasville is charged with attempted first-degree murder, according to court records.
The incident occurred shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday. Thomasville Police Sgt. Les Rickard said the driver of an older-model pick-up truck was driving on Doak Street and the bicyclist was traveling in the same direction but on the other side of the road.
Rickard said the driver crossed the road, cutting into the path of the bicyclist, causing him to crash into the truck.
The driver then got out and beat the bicyclist with an object. Rickard would not identify the object.
Rickard said Byrd and the man on the bicycle, Craig Harris, of Thomasville, are acquaintances but did not know how the two knew each other.
Harris was in good condition Wednesday at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said
Byrd is being held in the Davidson County jail under a $250,000 bond.
