CHARLESTON, S.C. - Freshman Anthony Arena scored the only goal of the match and No. 5 Wake Forest defeated the College of Charleston 1-0 last night.
After a scoreless first half, Wake Forest applied continues pressure on the Cougars (7-7) for most of the second half. Arena's goal came off a corner kick from Austin da Luz in the 58th minute.
It was the second goal of Arena's college career.
It was da Luz's eighth assist of the season and 32nd of his career.
Akira Fitzgerald made six saves in goal for Wake Forest (8-2-2).
Wake Forest outshot Charleston 15-12, including a 7-3 edge in the second half.
