A.J. Blue and Jamal Womble, North Carolina freshmen football players, will undergo surgery on Friday at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill to repair injuries sustained last Saturday.

UNC athletics officials said this morning that their status will be updated on Friday after the surgeries.

Womble, a redshirt freshman tailback, fractured his right wrist when playing on special teams and covering the opening kickoff in a game against Georgia Southern that UNC won 42-12.

Blue, a freshman, injured his left knee when playing on offense in the fourth quarter. Blue has played in all six UNC games, either as a running back or quarterback, and has rushed for 33 yards on 18 carries. He has completed one pass for 24 yards.

UNC, 4-2, is off this week and will not play again until Oct. 22 in a Thursday home game against Florida State.
