If you want to be a sitcom star, here's your chance -- depending on your age.
Fox has announced a nationwide casting call for 18- to 22-year-olds who can pass for 16 or 17 on a new comedy pilot. The pilot is from the producers of That '70s Show. The untitled new series will center on a group of modern teens.
Descriptions of the four characters can be found at www.tvpilotopencall.com, along with rules and other details. Contenders need to fill out an online form, read an audition scene and upload video of their audition to the Web. And if you get a part, be sure to let me know.
HBO has renewed Bored to Death, its new comedy series. The cast includes Zach Galifianakis, a Wilkesboro native. The series has been seen by 4.1 million viewers to date, according to HBO, with new episodes airing Sunday nights at 9:30 p.m.
Three recent cable stand-up comedy specials are coming to CD or DVD.
Jim Jefferies: I Swear to God, on DVD this Tuesday, features the HBO debut of rising star Jefferies, an Australian comedian known for his sharp wit.
Also out this week on DVD, CD and digital download on iTunes and other services is Nick Swardson: Seriously, Who Farted?, an extended version of a recent Comedy Central special. That will be followed on Oct. 20 by another recent Comedy Central special, Greg Giraldo: Midlife Vices, also on CD, DVD or digital download. The DVD also includes a previous stand-up special and his unaired pilot called Adult Content.
Zombies are in vogue now, with such movies as the current hit Zombieland, the latest movie by George A. Romero coming soon and a planned TV version of the hit comic book The Walking Dead in development.
The Starz documentary Zombie-Mania! takes a look at the history of zombie cinema and the ongoing debate between those who prefer their zombies slow and shambling and those who like the speedy types. The special will air Tuesday at 10 p.m. on Starz, digital-cable premium channel 442.
The raunchy, animated comedy South Park started its 14th season last week, and the show is celebrating its longevity with a contest and a new Blu-ray.
The series is running a sweepstakes at its official Web site, SouthParkStudios.com, in which viewers identify a scene in each episode where an alien was hiding in the background. The winner of the sweepstakes will be animated into an episode of the show that will air in March 2010. The next airing of last week's season premiere will be at 11 p.m. today on Comedy Central.
And on Tuesday, the 1999 theatrical release South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut comes to Blu-ray with a new audio commentary track by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators and stars. Samples of the lively commentary can be watched on the Web site.
This week's new DVD releases, in stores Tuesday, include the first seasons of the syndicated fantasy series Legend of the Seeker with Bridget Regan, an alumna of UNC School of the Arts, and Flashpoint, a Canadian police drama; the seventh season of Girlfriends; and the 11th and final season of Married … With Children.
