Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1075 Shalimar Drive, will mark two anniversaries this week:

■ The 26th anniversary of the Rev. John Mendez will be commemorated at 10 a.m. Sunday. The Rev. Audrey McCarter-Hedgepeth will be the speaker.

■ The church's 95th anniversary celebration will take place Friday through Oct. 18. At 7 p.m. Friday, mezzo-soprano Walteria Bethea and accompanist Rochelle L. Joyner will present "An Evening of Elegance: A Classical and Jazz Music Tribute." From 4 to 6 p.m. next Saturday, there will be a display of pictures and artifacts from the early 1900s. The celebration will culminate with a homecoming worship service at 10 a.m. Oct. 18. The Rev. Peter Edward Matthews will be the speaker.

The Music and the Arts Ministry of Centenary United Methodist Church, 646 W. East Bend United Methodist Church, Main St., East Bend, will have chicken and oyster stew beginning at 5:30 p.m. next Saturday. An auction will take place after the meal.
