The No. 9 Wake Forest women's soccer team and Duke combined for 35 shots, but neither team scored as the Deacons and Blue Devils played to a tie last night at Spry Stadium.
Wake Forest moved to 8-2-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the ACC. Duke is 4-4-3 and 0-1-1 in the conference.
Duke attempted 18 shots, Wake Forest 17.
Junior goalkeeper Amanda Barasha, making her first start of the season, tied a career high with six saves for Wake Forest. Tara Campbell made four stops in goal for Duke, getting her third shutout of the season.
Forward Jill Hutchinson attempted a team-leading six shots for Wake Forest, while fellow senior Kaley Fountain had five shots.
Gretchen Miller and Elisabeth Redmond each had four shots for the Blue Devils.
Duke got the first attempts, with three shots in the opening 19 minutes, but Barasha made each save. Wake Forest didn't attempt its first shot until the 27th minute, from 22 yards out by Fountain.
The Deacons had another good look at goal in the 34th minute when Hutchinson fired a shot from 18 yards out at the top of the box that went wide right.
The Deacons applied their best pressure of the game early in the second half. In the 47th minute, Fountain beat her defender on the left side and played a beautiful cross into the box. But the ball went untouched all the way through the six-yard box. to keep the score at 0-0.
Neither team was able to get a quality shot in either of the two overtime periods as the teams settled for a scoreless draw and a point each in the ACC standings.
Wake Forest continues conference play on Sunday, traveling to Clemson. Kickoff at Riggs Field is scheduled for 2 p.m.
