No. 2 Michigan State 90, Valparaiso 60: Tom Izzo got his 340th victory at Michigan State yesterday, tying the school record for victories with a home win over Valparaiso. Izzo shares the record with mentor Jud Heathcote, who was inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame last night with his best player, Earvin "Magic" Johnson.
Chris Allen scored 22 points to lead Michigan State (4-0), and Kalin Lucas added 15. Brandon Wood had 24 for Valparaiso (1-3). The game was a regional matchup in the Legends Classic. Michigan State will head to Atlantic City, N.J., for a game Friday against Florida in the tournament semifinals.
No. 5 Villanova 79, Ole Miss 67: Scottie Reynolds scored 21 points, Corey Stokes added 18 and No. 5 Villanova beat Mississippi to win the Puerto Rico Tip-Off last night in San Juan.
No. 7 Purdue 85, St. Joseph's 60: JaJuan Johnson had 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead Purdue past St. Joseph's in the Paradise Jam last night in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.
No. 10 Tennessee 57, DePaul 53: Tyler Smith made two free throws with 13.7 seconds left, and Tennessee held off DePaul in the second round of the Paradise Jam yesterday in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.
Kansas State 83, No. 18 Dayton 75: Jacob Pullen scored 26 points and Denis Clemente added 21 to lead Kansas State past Dayton in the third-place game of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off yesterday in San Juan.
No. 20 Louisville 90, Morgan State 81: Samardo Samuels scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to help No. 20 Louisville hold off visiting Morgan State. Preston Knowles added 13 points, five rebounds and five assists, and Edgar Sosa had 12 points for the Cardinals (3-0).
Miami 85, South Carolina 70: James Dews scored 22 points and Dwayne Collins added 17 points to go with 15 rebounds, leading Miami past South Carolina in the championship game of the Charleston Classic last night.
Collins was selected as the MVP of the tournament.
Penn State 59, Davidson 57: Jeff Brooks scored 12 points and Penn State held off Davidson in the third round of the Charleston Classic yesterday.
Jake Cohen led Davidson (0-4) with 13 points and nine rebounds.
South Florida 74, UNC Wilmington 66: Dominique Jones scored 28 points and South Florida beat UNC Wilmington yesterday in the third round of the Charleston Classic.
Murray State 84, N.C. Central 61: B.J. Jenkins scored 16 points, leading five Murray State players in double figures, as the Racers routed N.C. Central last night in Miami.
No. 4 North Carolina 78, UNLV 68: Italee Lucas scored 24 points and Cetera DeGraffenreid added 22 to help visiting North Carolina beat UNLV yesterday.
Lucas, who hails from Las Vegas, scored seven of the Tar Heels' first 11 points during the second half. Then, after missing two free throws with 1:19 left, Lucas scored off her own offensive rebound to give North Carolina a 74-66 lead.
It was her first chance to play in Las Vegas.
Chay Shegog and Tierra Ruffin-Pratt each had 11 rebounds for the Tar Heels (3-0).
Jamie Smith led the Rebels (2-2) with 17 points and 18 rebounds. Kelli Thompson added 15 points.
No. 2 Stanford 76, UC Davis 51: Kayla Pedersen had 17 points and 11 rebounds in leading visiting Stanford past UC Davis yesterday.
No. 3 Ohio State 93, Oklahoma State 72: Jantel Lavender scored 26 points, Brittany Johnson had a career-high 23 and Samantha Prahalis added 22 to lead No. 3 Ohio State past Oklahoma State to win the Preseason WNIT yesterday in Columbus, Ohio.
No. 5 Notre Dame 80, Iona 45: Skylar Diggins scored 17 points, Becca Bruszewski had 14 and Notre Dame forced 33 turnovers en route to a win against Iona yesterday in South Bend, Ind.
No. 6 Tennessee 77, No. 12 Virginia 63: Angie Bjorklund scored 24 points and hit the big shots when Tennessee needed them as the Lady Vols beat Virginia yesterday in Charlottesville, Va.
No. 8 Baylor 69, No. 17 California 49: Brittney Griner had 15 points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots to lead Baylor past California yesterday in Berkeley, Calif.
No. 13 Florida State 66, Georgia State 53:Jacinta Monroe scored 14 points before twisting her left knee midway through the second half, and Florida State beat Georgia State yesterday in Atlanta.
No. 25 Mississippi State 84, Maryland 55: Alexis Rack scored a career-high 43 points and led a defensive effort that forced 28 turnovers to lead Mississippi State past Maryland yesterday in Starkville, Miss.
Morehead State 68, Winston-Salem State 45: Tiffany Hamilton, Chynna Bozeman and Ashley Martin each scored 16 points to lead Morehead State past Winston-Salem State in the Morehead State University Invitational yesterday.
Morehead State (3-2) took a 30-14 halftime lead and held the upper hand throughout the second half.
Rene Rector and Porsche Harrell led WSSU (2-3) with 10 points each.
The Rams struggled with their shooting, hitting 14 of 50 from the field, including 3 of 18 from long range.
WSSU will play Furman in its home opener at the Gaines Center at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
Hampton 66, UNC Wilmington 52: Whitney Hill scored 20 points to lead Hampton past visiting UNC Wilmington yesterday.
Brittany Blackwell led UNCW with 15 points.
