Penguins 3, Thrashers 2: Defenseman Martin Skoula scored two goals, and visiting Pittsburgh held off Atlanta last night.
It was only the third win in eight games for the defending Stanley Cup champion Penguins (15-8), who have been plagued by injuries after opening the season by winning 12 of their first 15. The Thrashers (10-7-2) fell to 4-5-1 at home.
Evgeni Malkin scored Pittsburgh's other goal.
Red Wings 3, Canadiens 2 (SO): Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg scored on Detroit's first two shootout tries as the visiting Red Wings beat Montreal last night.
Datsyuk, who netted one of Detroit's two power-play goals in the first period, deked and put a shot past Carey Price on the Wings' first shootout try.
Jimmy Howard stopped Mike Plekanec to open the tiebreaker, and Tomas Plekanec struck the post on Montreal's next shot. Zetterberg then clinched Detroit's win with a shot between Price's pads.
Maple Leafs 2, Capitals 1 (SO): Phil Kessel, Niklas Hagman and a couple of good bounces helped pull Toronto over visiting Washington last night. It was the Maple Leafs' first victory in six games.
It was Toronto's first win in extra time all season.
Predators 4, Blue Jackets 3 (SO): Mike Santorelli and David Legwand scored shootout goals to lead Nashville over visiting Columbus last night.
Pekka Rinne denied two of Columbus' three shooters in the tiebreaker to earn his fifth consecutive victory.
Senators 5, Sabres 3: Daniel Alfredsson had two goals and an assist and Filip Kuba had a goal and three assists to lead Ottawa over visiting Buffalo last night.
Chris Kelly and Milan Michalek also scored for the Senators, who have won three straight.
Panthers 3, Rangers 2: Nathan Horton, Jordan Leopold and Steven Reinprecht scored goals and Tomas Vokoun made 32 saves as visiting Florida beat slumping New York last night.
Vinny Prospal and Marian Gaborik scored for the Rangers, who lost for the fourth time in five games.
After a slow start, the Panthers have won eight of 11.
Flames 5, Kings 2: Jarome Iginla scored a goal in each period to lead visiting Calgary over Los Angeles yesterday.
Iginla completed his first hat trick of the season, and ninth of his career, with a shot from the right circle that got past Kings goalie Jonathan Quick with 4:07 left in the game.
Coyotes 3, Flyers 1: Keith Yandle scored a power-play goal with 9:41 remaining to help Phoenix beat visiting Philadelphia last night for its second win in three games.
Scott Hartnell scored for the Flyers, who have lost two straight after winning seven of their previous eight.
Blues 4, Islanders 1: David Perron scored twice, and Patrik Berglund's first goal in 13 games proved to be the difference as St. Louis' beat visiting New York last night.
Eric Brewer also scored, and Chris Mason stopped 23 shots as the Blues won back-to-back games for the first time since beating Detroit in Sweden on Oct. 2-3. St. Louis is 3-2 on a six-game homestand.
Stars 5, Devils 3: Defenseman Stephane Robidas had two goals and two assists, rookie Tom Wandell scored the tie-breaking goal in the third period as Dallas beat visiting New Jersey last night.
The Devils trailed 3-1 after the first period, but drew even at 3 at 6:31 of the third period on Travis Zajac's power-play goal.
