The U.S. Postal Service said today that Winston-Salem's downtown post office, on Town Run Lane, remains on the list of branches and retail stations that may be closed as the postal service looks for ways to save money.
Earlier this year the postal service began looking at about 3,300 stations and branches, mainly in urban and suburban areas. Only 241 offices remain under review, the post office said.
Unlike most federal agencies, the post office does not get a federal subsidy. It reported a loss of $3.8 billion at the end of its 2009 fiscal year in October.
No final decisions have been made as a result of this initiative, the post office said today.
