GREENSBORO
North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue wants to talk about the public schools and higher education during a visit to the Triad.

Perdue was scheduled to speak Monday morning in Greensboro with Grimsley High School students about applying for college before speaking to the annual meeting of the North Carolina School Boards Association.

Perdue and state lawmakers didn't endear themselves to school leaders this year by approving a state budget that required districts to find $225 million in cuts in grades 4-12. Perdue and the State Board of Education urged school officials to tap into federal stimulus funds to keep teachers and other key personnel employed.

The governor also is scheduled to visit the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine.
