SHOES, GLORIOUS SHOES: When the late artist and arts activist Kelly Jo Petersen-Womble found out that her cancer had recurred, she asked her friends to send her shoes instead of sappy cards and flowers. Amy Garland, owner of 5IVE & 40RTY gallery, and Millicent Greason, owner of Urban Artware, subsequently curated a show called "Shoe Shrine" in Petersen's honor. A closing reception for the "Shoe Shrine" exhibition will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at 5IVE & 40RTY gallery, 541-A N. Trade St. A silent auction, currently under way, of the works in the show will conclude at the end of the evening. Proceeds will benefit the Kelly Jo Petersen Scholarship at the UNC School of the Arts School of Design and Production. For more information, call 724-2474 or 722-2345.

SIX OF ONE: Cable channel AMC is taking a big chance with The Prisoner, a new six-hour miniseries based on the cult 1960s British drama. Fans of the original may balk at the new interpretation, which takes a Bourne Identity-like approach with an amnesiac hero, while casual viewers may find it all too mind-bending. Jim Caviezel plays a man who is abducted and wakes up, stripped of his identity and memories, in a beautiful but sinister resort called The Village. He must find out why he's there and what the purpose of The Village is, which means a game of wits with the leader of the place, the elegant and sinister Two (Ian McKellen). It airs in three installments, at 8 p.m. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

E-'SCAPE-IST FARE: Timed for its 10th anniversary, the ambitious sci-fi series Farscape is back on DVD on Tuesday after long being out of print, with all four seasons available individually or in one massive 25-disc boxed set. The series follows John Crichton (Ben Browder), a wry, pop-culture-savvy astronaut who goes through a "wormhole" in space and emerges in the midst of a struggle in a distant galaxy. Joining forces with an eclectic crew of alien refugees, he tries to find his way home and help fight the forces of evil. The DVDs are loaded with extras, including commentaries, featurettes, documentaries, video profiles, deleted scenes and interviews.
