Writers Notebook: Seminar on preserving your stories

The Farm at Weathers Creek will present a seminar Saturday about memoirs and the preservation of family stories.

Ann Wicker, a co-founder of The Weathers Creek Writing Series, will lead the session. Her book, Making Notes: Music of the Carolinas, was a finalist in ForeWord magazine's annual contest for books by independent publishers.

The seminar will meet from 10 a.m. to about 3 p.m. at the farm, near Mooresville. Registration is $75, including lunch. Reservations will be accepted through Monday.

Call for entries

Annual memoirs competition: The Writers' Workshop is accepting through Nov. 30 submissions from adult writers. Entries must be unpublished and no more than 4,000 words. The entry fee is $20 for each memoir, $15 for members. There will be cash prizes. For complete guidelines, go to www.twwoa.org.

Changing My World essay contest: The Writers' Workshop is accepting through Nov. 30 submissions from writers ages 8-18.
