Bishop McGuinness gets second-round soccer win

Bishop McGuinness 2, Misenheimer Gray Stone 1: Noah DeAngelo and Evan Seach each scored last night as visiting Bishop McGuinness tripped Misenheimer Gray Stone in the second round of the NCHSAA 1-A tournament.
DeAngelo gave McGuinness a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute off an assist from George Freiberger. Seach added the insurance goal in the 56th minute off an assist from David Myers.
Gray Stone trimmed the lead to 2-1 with five minutes left.
McGuinness (12-9-1) will play at Monroe, which defeated West Wilkes 4-1 last night, in next week's third round.

Greensboro Page 3, Reynolds 0: Rob Lovejoy had two goals and added an assist as Greensboro Page defeated visiting Reynolds in the second round of the NCHSAA Class 4-A playoffs.

Team tennis

NCHSAA championships: Raleigh Broughton outlasted Charlotte Myers Park 5-2 in a battle of undefeated teams for the 4-A championship girls dual team-tennis championships at the Burlington Tennis Center yesterday.

Other state champions crowned yesterday were Charlotte Catholic (3-A), Salisbury (2-A) and Durham's N.C. School of Science and Math (1-A).

Volleyball

NCHSAA championships: Unbeaten Greenville Rose defended its 4-A title by beating Charlotte Ardrey Kell 3-1 yesterday in Raleigh.
Other schools who won state titles yesterday were Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons (3-A), North Surry (2-A) and Pender (1-A.)
