NFL Notebook: Kasay, several others might not play

■ Panthers: Kicker John Kasay is questionable for Sunday's game at New Orleans after missing a second straight practice with a groin injury. Kickoff specialist Rhys Lloyd would most likely attempt place-kicks if Kasay misses his first game since 2004.

Fullback Brad Hoover won't play because of a high-ankle sprain. Backup Tony Fiammetta (concussion) missed his third straight practice yesterday and is questionable.

Receiver Muhsin Muhammad is listed as questionable, but is expected to sit out a second straight game (knee). Running back Jonathan Stewart (Achilles' tendon) is questionable, but practiced. Also questionable are safety Charles Godfrey (ankle), tight end Dante Rosario (knee) and linebacker Landon Johnson (shoulder).

■ Colts: Indianapolis suddenly has some serious holes in its secondary: Cornerback Marlin Jackson and strong safety Bob Sanders are both gone for the season.

The team said yesterday that Jackson (left knee) and Sanders (left elbow) have both been placed on injured reserve.

Sanders will undergo surgery for a torn biceps.

Veteran cornerback Kelvin Hayden is also expected to be sidelined for the next three to four weeks with a knee sprain.

The Colts put Jackson on injured reserve after he tore his ACL on Wednesday during a non-contact drill. He had been rehabbing the knee after he was hurt against Seattle on Oct. 4.

Sanders, the 2007 NFL defensive player of the year, had just returned to the team after missing training camp, the preseason and the first month of the regular season after surgery on his right knee. He is expected to have elbow surgery on an unspecified date.

■ Dolphins: Linebacker Channing Crowder and nose tackle Jason Ferguson are listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the New England Patriots.

Both have been limited in practice this week, including yesterday. Crowder missed last week's win over the New York Jets with a left shoulder injury, and Ferguson has an elbow injury.

Reggie Torbor would again replace Crowder in the lineup. Torbor tied for the team high with seven tackles against the Jets.

Paul Soliai would make the first start of his three-year career if Ferguson doesn't play.

■ Giants: New York, in a three-game losing streak, will make a lineup change at safety for Sunday's game against the San Diego Chargers, with Aaron Rouse replacing C.C. Brown.

Brown landed the job in September when Kenny Phillips was put on injured reserve after knee surgery. During the losing streak, Brown has been beaten twice on deep passes for touchdowns.

■ Broncos: Defensive back Ty Law has agreed to terms on a deal with Denver.

Carl Poston, one of Law's agents, confirmed the news yesterday to The Associated Press. The agreement came after Denver's media availability and a Broncos spokesman said the team had no comment.

Law, 35, a perennial Pro Bowl selection, will fit right in with veterans Champ Bailey, Andre' Goodman, Brian Dawkins and Renaldo Hill, all in their 30s.

Law becomes the latest former New England player to reunite with Broncos coach Josh McDaniels, who spent his previous eight seasons as an assistant with the Patriots.

Law, a first-round pick by New England in 1995, Law helped the Patriots to three Super Bowl titles. He played for the New York Jets last season.
