Published: November 6, 2009

Dash: Winston-Salem's downtown baseball stadium is scheduled to open April 13, when the Dash will play the Potomac Nationals. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The stadium is still under construction after a planned opening this year was delayed.

The Dash, which released its 2010 schedule yesterday, will begin the season on the road April 8 with a four-game series against the Kinston Indians. After a scheduled off day, the Dash will open its stadium with a six-game homestand April 13-18. The Dash schedule has been posted online at www.wsdash.com.

Braves: Tim Hudson is nearing agreement on a three-year contract. Atlanta holds a $12 million option on Hudson, a 34-year-old right-hander, who was 2-1 with a 3.61 ERA in seven starts this season after his return from elbow ligament-replacement surgery.

Angels: Outfielder Bobby Abreu agreed yesterday to a $19 million, two-year contract to stay with Los Angeles. Abreu hit .293 this year with 15 home runs, 103 RBIs and 30 steals.

Red Sox: Boston acquired outfielder Jeremy Hermida from the Marlins yesterday for left-handers Jose Alvarez and Hunter Jones.

Hermida hit .259 this year with 13 home runs and 47 RBIs. Alvarez went 9-4 in Class A with a 2.26 ERA in 12 starts and 14 relief appearances. Jones spent most of the year in Class AAA.

Giants: Pitcher Tim Lincecum is facing misdemeanor marijuana charges following a traffic stop in his home state.

Lincecum, a 25-year-old All-Star starter, pleaded not guilty Monday through his attorney after the Washington State Patrol cited him Oct. 30. The charge was made after he was pulled over for speeding on Interstate 5 near the Oregon border. Officials said Lincecum possessed 3.3 grams of marijuana, which police consider a small amount for personal use.

World Series: Television ratings on Fox averaged an 11.7 rating and 19 share, the highest since a 15.8/26 in 2004, when the Red Sox swept the Cardinals. Ratings were up 39 percent from the record-low 8.4/14 for the 2008 Phillies-Rays series. Fox said yesterday that was the biggest one-year increase ever.

Game 6 on Wednesday night earned a 13.4/22. A rating is the percentage of households with televisions tuned to a program. The share is the percentage of homes with TVs in use.

Rangers: Former Colorado manager Clint Hurdle was hired as the team's hitting coach. Hurdle replaces Rudy Jaramillo, who became hitting coach for the Cubs

Free agents: The Dodgers declined a $10 million mutual option on pitcher Jon Garland for next season, making him eligible for free agency. Diamondbacks infielder Chad Tracy also can become a free agent after Arizona declined his $7 million option.
