MANAGUA, Nicaragua - Tropical Storm Ida formed in the southwestern Caribbean yesterday, quickly gaining muscle and prompting storm warnings for the coast of Nicaragua and two Colombian islands.
Maximum sustained winds increased to 66 mph, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami.
A hurricane watch was in effect for the eastern coast of Nicaragua from Bluefields to the border with Honduras.
