Mickey Andrews, Florida's State's longtime defensive coordinator, is retiring after 47 years of coaching, including 26 at FSU.

Andrews, who will coach through the end of the season, was the architect of defenses that helped the Seminoles achieve national prominence in the1980s and '90s. He developed 18 first-round NFL Draft picks, starting with cornerback Deion Sanders in 1988.

■ Safety Zac Etheridge of Auburn said he feels blessed to be able to walk after a serious neck injury and that he expects to play football again.

Etheridge, injured Saturday against Mississippi, said that his fifth vertebra was cracked and that he tore ligaments in his neck. He and teammate Antonio Coleman collided heads first while trying to tackle Mississippi's Rodney Scott.

Etheridge said he wants to play again and doctors told him he should be able to. He has to wear a brace, a harness-like device with a support under his chin and running up the back of his neck, for three to four months.

■ Clemson's starting tight end, Michael Palmer, is expected back this week against Florida State after missing the last game with a concussion. He was injured in at Miami on Oct. 24.

■ Georgia's Washaun Ealey, the victim of what appeared to be an attempted eye-gouging by Florida's Brandon Spikes, said he doesn't thinks Spikes should have been suspended for one half of Florida's next game.

"He shouldn't, I think, get suspended at all," Ealey said. "We were just out there playing football."

Ealey said he had his eyes closed when Spikes stuck his hand in his helmet and that he wasn't hurt.

■ The EagleBank Bowl has extended its contracts with the ACC, Conference USA, Navy and Army and has a new agreement with the Big 12.

Under agreements announced yesterday, the bowl will feature an ACC team each year from 2010 to 2013 against a C-USA team in 2010, Navy in 2011, Army in 2012 and a Big 12 team in 2013. Should Navy or Army not be bowl-eligible in their years, a Big 12 team will be chosen in 2011 and a C-USA team will be picked in 2012.

■ Safety Chris Culliver of South Carolina is still bothered by a left-shoulder injury, Coach Steve Spurrier said, and will miss Saturday's game against Arkansas. Spurrier said he is angry that Culliver didn't report how sore his shoulder was before last week's game against Tennessee.

Culliver missed some tackles against the Volunteers because he didn't want to hurt the shoulder more.
