■ The Twin City Track Club needs volunteers to help with finish-line duties during Saturday's NCHSAA cross-country championships at Tanglewood Park.
The club is in charge of the finish for all eight races, but needs volunteers because several club members will be competing in the Outer Banks Marathon this weekend. The first race is scheduled at 10 a.m. and the last race at 3:30.

■ The Mercy 5-K at Salem Lake will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, with a one-mile fun run scheduled at 9:30.
This will be the 26th running of the race, which has had different distances through the years and has been sponsored by Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church since 1984. The Knights of Columbus of Our Lady of Mercy have organized the race since 1991 for the benefit of Crisis Control Ministry, with this year's proceeds going toward support of the free pharmacy.

■ Shawn Marek, 31, and Tim Starets, 39, of Winston-Salem had top-100 finishes in last month's Marine Corps Marathon, which drew 21,386 runners. Marek was 76th with a time of 2:50:16, and Starets was 77th in 2:50.18.
■ Garick Hill, 28, of Winston-Salem won the men's division of last month's Rural Hall 10-K last in 32 minutes, 43 seconds, and Robert Youtz, 31, of Lewisville was second in 36:36. Viviana Calco-Caiza, 29, of High Point won the women's division (40:32) and Betsy Armentrout, 37, of Winston-Salem was second (42:19).
■ The Turkey Strut 5-K will be at 9 a.m. Thanksgiving Day, with the start and finish at Fleet Feet Sports on Reynolda Road. There will also be a one-mile fun run. The entry fee for the 5-K is $25. Contacts: www.setupevents.com, Fleet Feet 722-8477.
■ The 26th Mistletoe Half Marathon will be Dec. 5 at the William G. White Family YMCA (formerly the Central YMCA) starting at 8:15 a.m. There will also be a one-mile fun run at 8 a.m. and a 5-K at 8:35 a.m.
Money raised will go toward several programs at the YMCA, including teen advancement, mentoring and after-school programs.
