■ Senior Jasmine Chunn (Forbush '06) had a career-high 10 blocks to pace Catawba to a four-set win over visiting Newberry in a South Atlantic Conference volleyball last Friday. Taylor Doss (Starmount '08) added nine kills and a service ace for the Indians (15-9).
Chunn leads Catawba in blocks (66) and is fourth in kills per game (1.67), and Doss leads in service aces (21) and is fifth in kills per game (1.62). Freshman Jordan Raye (Starmount '09), despite limited playing time, has 26 kills with just two attack errors and leads the team with a sparkling attack percentage of .500.
■ Freshman Andrea Beck (Mount Tabor, '09) had a match-high 11 kills and hit a season-best .688 to lead the Wake Forest volleyball team past Boston College on Saturday. The three-set victory (25-13, 25-22, 25-19) lifted the Deacons back above .500 in the ACC at 7-6.
Beck's 11 kills came on just 16 attempts. She had no errors and added three blocks and one assist.
■ Sophomore Maggie Seeds (West Forsyth '08) tied a career- and match-high with 16 kills to lead Appalachian State's volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over College of Charleston on Saturday.
■ Greg Dame (Mount Tabor '07) had a top-20 finish to help N.C. State win the ACC men's cross-country championship Saturday at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.
Dame finished 19th with a time of 24:14.4 as the Wolfpack dethroned defending champion Virginia. The Cavaliers' Trey Miller (Reynolds '06) finished 15th in 23:58.3.
■ Andrew Rogers (Mount Tabor, '06), a senior co-captain, helped UNC Wilmington beat Emory on Saturday in men's swimming, winning the 100 back (52.93) and 200 back (1:56.00) to help the Seahawks improve to 3-1.
■ N.C. State's women's swimming team won a tri-meet against Campbell and Richmond on Saturday, getting strong contributions from Morgan Robertson (Surry Central '08) and Erica Waters (Mount Tabor, '08). Robertson swam on the winning 200 medley-relay team and finished second in the 100 back (58.25). Waters was on the winning 200 freestyle-relay team and finished fourth in the 100 free (53.63).
■ Richmond, ranked No. 1 in the Football Championship Subdivision, stayed undefeated by rallying in the second half to beat Towson 42-14 and benefitted from a key special-teams play by Jonathan Mayfield (Davie County '06).
With Richnmond ahead 21-14 in the third quarter, Towson ran a fake-punt play. The ball came loose, and Mayfield pounced on it at Towson's 3, setting up a touchdown that helped the Spiders (8-0) start pulling away.
