James Monroe, the bank's treasurer, and James Hastings, the bank's executive vice president and chief financial officer, were abroad the plane when it crashed near the intersection of Upper Brush Creek Road and Bethany Church Road in the Fairview community, FOX8/WGHP-TV reported.

Monroe and Hastings were taken from the scene by a medical helicopter to an Asheville hospital.

The crash occurred about 5:20 p.m. when the plane had engine failure as it was flying at 8,000 feet, the television station reported. The pilot then attempted to land in a cornfield, clipped a tree and flipped the plane as it struck the ground.
