Raiders: Coach Tom Cable said he believes his future entails coaching in Oakland despite allegations that he assaulted his former wife and girlfriend.

Cable declined to respond to any specific questions yesterday about whether he has an anger-management issue after the allegations from his first wife and former girlfriend on ESPN that he physically abused them at various times during their relationships.

Cable said he is the coach of the Raiders and that he thought "my future is to be the coach of the Raiders."

The Raiders said they first learned of these allegations from ESPN in the past week.

"In conjunction with the league office, we will undertake a serious evaluation of this matter," the team said in a statement yesterday. "We wish to be clear that we do not in any way condone or accept actions such as those alleged. There have been occasions on which we have dismissed Raider employees for having engaged in inappropriate conduct."

Cardinals: Wide receiver Anquan Boldin hopes to play at Chicago this week despite re-aggravating a right-ankle sprain.

Boldin re-injured his ankle in the third quarter of a 34-21 loss to Carolina on Sunday. He left the game and did not return.

"If I'm able to run, I'm going to play football," Boldin said yesterday.

Browns: Cleveland is without a general manager after George Kokinis left the club under unexplained circumstances.

After reports surfaced that Kokinis was fired, the team issued an awkwardly worded statement last night saying the GM "is no longer actively involved with the organization." The Browns also denied reports that Kokinis was escorted from their team headquarters.

Kokinis' departure came one day after owner Randy Lerner said he wanted to hire a "strong, credible, serious" football adviser to help run his struggling team, which is 1-7. Kokinis was hired on Jan. 23, two weeks after the Browns named Eric Mangini as their fourth coach since 1999..
